Traditional Chinese Medicine

Picture
TCM has been around thousands of years.  TCM is a lifestyle philosophy guiding the maintainance of optimal health and treatment for imbalances.  TCM is based on experimentation and knowledge that has been handed down through generations with the general end result being that chi flows through the body with optimal results.  A TCM lifestyle includes exercise, diet and meditation and may utilize herbal medicine, acupunture, tui-na (massage & chiropractics) and dietary therapy.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing.  Originating in China over 3,000 years ago, traditional acupuncture is the oldest continually practiced medical system in the world.  The fundamental principles of acupuncture are to treat the patient as an integrated whole and to identify and remedy the root cause of disease.   It can be used to relieve pain or to improve the function of various organ systems in an animal's body.

In Western terms, acupuncture can assist the body to heal itself by affecting certain physiological changes.  Acupuncture can stimulate nerves, increase blood circulation, relieve muscle spasms and cause the release of hormones such as endorphins (one of the body's pain control chemicals) and cortisol (a natural steroid).  By stimulating specific points on the body with the use of fine needles, blocked energy or Qi is released and health is restored.  More information about acupuncture

Veterinary Chiropractic

Veterinary Chiropractic refers to the practice of manipulating the spine and joints to prevent and treat disease.  Manipulative therapies have been practiced for centuries in many cultures, including early Chinese and Greeks.

Musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions are well suited to chiropractic manipulation.  These conditions include hip dysplasia, spinal arthritis, disc disease and seizures.
Chiropractic is also an outstanding maintainance modality for dogs competing in agility, obedience, rally, lure coursing and other physical activities
